Fall Festival 2009 in Sister Bay is over and we lived through it. The weather was fairly good, cooler than normal temperatures, but it didn't rain and it didn't snow. Two things to be thankful for. The sun even peeked out a few times. A BIG thank you to my son Eric Michalsen and his group, Jeff, Greg, Roger and Bob along with Emilie, for taking such good care of the Lapskaus stand. It was a big hit, especially in the cooler weather. Nothing warms you up like a big bowl of Lapskaus (Norwegians Farmers Stew for the uninitiated).
Fall Festival fell during the peak of the fall colors. The trees were just vibrant, glowing and gorgeous.
We had some extra fall color promotion on national TV from the Today Show, listing Door County one of the ten best places to view the fall color in the NATION! How's them apples? Or in this case, leaves?
I am fortunate to live on one of the roads in Door County that have mature maple trees lining both sides of the road and forming a bower of color. My photo doesn't do it justice, but the ride down Waters End Road is a great way to start the day and to end it.
The Sister Bay Cafe and Solbjorg's will be open full time through October, 8 AM to 8 PM, cloing between 3 and 5 in the afternoon. In November we are open the same hours on Saturdays and Sundays, and we will close at 2 PM on Mondays. See you then!
